New SAFed route for welders to obtain CSCS cards
Published: October 9, 2017
The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS), the Safety Assessment Federation (SAFed) and Zurich Engineering have announced a new route for welders to gain a SAFed card displaying the CSCS logo.
What this means is SAFed (an independent engineering inspection and skills certification body) in conjunction with Zurich Engineering, will start issuing SAFed branded cards displaying the CSCS logo, for welding occupations from early October 2017.
SAFed member company Zurich Engineering are accredited by the UK’s National Accreditation Body (UKAS) to carry out welder approval assessments as a Type A Inspection Body accredited to BS EN ISO/IEC 17020. SAFed, acting as the standard setting body, have audited Zurich’s welder approval assessment route and confirmed it meets the requirements for a SAFed card displaying the CSCS logo.
CSCS Director of Operations Gordon Jenkins said: “CSCS is pleased to have worked alongside SAFed and Zurich Engineering and to have reached an agreement that maintains standards and benefits the whole industry.
“Zurich’s assessment route has been approved as an alternative to the NVQ Level 2, enabling the CSCS logo to be displayed on the SAFed card. This is another positive example of sectors working together to achieve a fully qualified workforce.”
